Serdar Yalçın, who lives in Mudurnu and holds two university qualifications, achieved considerable success by opening a toast shop instead of becoming a civil servant and obtaining what the report described as a patent for “Bazlamalı Mudurnu Tostu”.

At the age of 26, Serdar Yalçın set an example of entrepreneurship for his peers. After completing his primary and secondary education in the district, he earned an associate degree in Marketing and Trade at Karadeniz Technical University. He then completed a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Anadolu University.

For Serdar Yalçın, two university qualifications were not enough. Rather than hoping to pass the KPSS examination and become a civil servant like many of his peers, he decided to become his own boss in 2008. He soon attracted attention in the district by selling toast made with the local flatbread known as bazlama, prepared by his mother. Over the following five years, he managed to double the size of his shop and began looking into establishing his own brand.

After applying to the Turkish Patent Institute, Yalçın secured the “Bazlamalı Mudurnu Tostu” brand. The 26-year-old entrepreneur continued selling toast at his premises on Yıldırım Bayezit Street in Büyük Cami neighbourhood under the slogan “Türkiye böyle tost yemedi” — “Turkey has never tasted toast like this.” Local residents also supported the young entrepreneur.
